YOUR BUDGET, YOUR CHOICE – HIGHLIGHTER

We all love dewy, glowing skin and what better way to achieve that than with the help of a highlighter!  Here are my three highlighter picks to best suit every budget.

VIVO HIGHLIGHTER

PRICE : £5

WHERE: Tesco

WHAT:  – golden highlighter with a pink undertone

             – very fine shimmer, no glitter particles

             – blends very well

             – lasts all day

VERDICT:  This is a great product considering the price!  You get a lot of budget highlighters that are either too glittery or don’t really have much of an effect, however the Vivo’s is just right.

BENEFIT GIRL MEETS PEARL

PRICE: £24.50

WHERE: www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk, Boots, Department Stores

WHAT:  – a golden pink highlighter

            – easy to apply and blend

            – comes in a wind up tube so you can adjust how much product comes out

            – lightweight with a subtle finish

VERDICT:  This is a staple in my kit and it gives a great golden, glowing finish.  I’d recommend this over the Moon Beam or High Beam as for me it’s the better highlighter.

BECCA SHIMMERING SKIN PERFECTOR – PEARL

PRICE: £33

WHERE: www.beccacosmetics.com

WHAT:  – a pearl coloured, liquid highlighter with SPF 20+

            – blends amazingly well

            – as well as being a great highlighter, it contains vitamins A, B, D & E to aid in tissue repair, increase collagen renewal & moisture holding capacity.

VERDICT:  This product is the priciest but it is one of my favourites as it is so easy to apply and blend and gives a very expensive luxe finish to the skin. Also, for those of you who think it’s too pale for you, it comes in a bronze as well called “Topaz” which is just as gorgeous.

TOP TIPS

  • If using the product just as a highlighter, apply it where the light would naturally hit your face – cheekbones, the brow bone, down the centre of the nose, cupid’s bow of the lips.
  • If using it more to illuminate your skin in general, then why not mix some in with your foundation to give an overall glow?
  • Remember less is more – you don’t want to end up looking too shiny or sweaty!

Becca Day Look

Make-up – Salina Thind

Becca was founded by Australian make-up artist Rebecca Morrice Williams and the brand philosophy is to create a natural, flawless look concentrating on getting the skin looking amazing.  The range caters for all skin tones so women of all ethnicities can definitely find the correct shade for themselves at Becca, as well as some gorgeous natural toned shades for lips, cheeks and eyes.

For the above look I’ve played around with their eye and lip tints to create a natural day look (as the tints are water-resistant, this is a great beach look for those of you off on your September hols or just for those of you who are lazy as it really won’t move)!  This look is also perfect if you’re sporting a post-holiday tan and don’t want to/need to bother with foundation.   There’s a slight difference in the two images as I’ve added a little shine to the eyelids in the right image.  Although this is another simple day look, it’s using products with different textures than you normally would – so let’s get to it!

SKIN - All I used as a base was Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector (£33), which is a water-based moisturizer with an SPF of 20+ and light-diffusing particles of shimmer that creates instant radiance and vitality and reduces imperfections.  It gives an amazing glow and comes in different colours so you can pick one to suit your complexion.  I love this product because the mica particles are ultra fine so you don’t get that glittery look but more of a radiant sheen and it reflects the light really well, not just when it catches certain angles.  I used my fingers to smooth it all over Sharan’s skin – this is a great product for those who don’t want to wear foundation but just need that little something.  This product is also good to just use a highlight on the brow bone and cheeks on top of a foundation.

EYES – For the eyes I used Becca’s Eye Tint (£20) in Mushroom Beige.  This product goes on as a cream but sets as a powder, doesn’t streak and is water-resistant and crease-resistant!  I applied it all over the eyelids using an eyeshadow brush, but you can also use your fingers.  I also took it underneath the eye just to complete the look.  If you want to add a little something extra like the image on the right, you could take some Vaseline and just apply a little over the eyelid once the tint is dry to give you a glossy look.  To finish off I applied Becca’s The Ultimate Mascara (£18) – it does it all, lengthens, thickens, curls, lifts and separates and is water-resistant.

CHEEKS – The aptly named Beach Tint (£20) in Warm Orange Red is a 2-in-1 water-resistant cheek and lip tint.  Some tints are quite hard to work with but this one is very blendable, however you do need to work quick.  I applied it onto the apples of Sharan’s cheeks using my fingers as that gave me more control over the product.  Once satisfied with the intensity of the blush I went over it with Becca’s Creme Blush (£24) in Wild Orchid to give it a bit more of a natural flush.  I applied this blush onto the apples of the cheeks and carried it slightly further up along the cheekbones, again using my fingers.

LIPS - I used the same products and technique on the lips as I did on the cheeks.  There are a few options here.  What I did above was apply the Beach Tint and then apply the Creme Blush over the top to give you the glossy finish.  However, you could always apply the Beach Tint alone or even use the Creme Blush on it’s own to give a pinkier look.

And that’s how to create Becca’s Day Look!

The important thing to remember with make-up is that there are no rules, use your products in different ways and experiment!  So whether it’s trying new textures or colours, try something new.
