ESTEE LAUDER – CLASSIC BRONZED EYE LOOK
Photographer – Hollie Carlin
Hair & Make-up – Salina
Model – Georgia
My first look was created using only Estée Lauder products. I’ve always been a fan of Estée Lauder and it was probably the huge set of brushes and make-up I received as a Christmas gift one year as a teen that cemented my love for make-up.
This is a make-up look I recreate time and time again (on shoots and on my private clients) – it’s quite classic and simple and can look great for any occasion, be it a wedding or a party. It’s also a great one for blue eyes as it really makes them pop!
Now for the important bits – the products and how to apply them!
Step 1 – Primer. There are many primers on the market and each one serves a different purpose. Estée Lauder’s Idealist (£38) is a pore minimizing skin refresher and repairs the look of uneven skin texture, flakiness and roughness – so it smooths out and resurfaces the skin, creating a good base for your foundation. They recommend using it before your moisturiser.
Step 2 – Foundation. Estée Lauder have a range of foundations, but in this look I used their Double Wear Light Stay In Place Makeup SPF10 (£26.50). It’s sheer to medium coverage and is oil free, which is surprising from the texture as it’s unlike other oil free foundations I’ve used. There is no right or wrong way to apply foundation – fingers, brushes – it’s entirely a personal choice, just make sure it’s the right colour and blended in! We generally need more coverage in the center part of our face so it’s always best to start applying there and working out and up towards the hairline.
Step 3 – Concealer. Our lovely Georgia needed a little concealer under her eyes and I opted for Double Wear Stay In Place Concealer SPF10 (£19) – it’s creamy and not dry at all, so is easy to move and blend once applied and did a great job of covering any blueness/darkness. The best way to apply it is using your fingers so that the product gets a little heat on it and to tap/dab it on rather than swiping or dragging it along the skin, as the skin is very delicate under the eye area.
Step 4 – Eyeshadow. I used two eyeshadows here Double Wear Stay In Place Shadowcreme in Antique Gold(£16.50) and Pure Color Eyeshadow in Smoky Ember Shimmer (£16) – one cream and one powder. The Shadowcremes are one of my favourite eyeshadows as once applied they just don’t move or crease and they come in a variety of colours! For this look I applied the Shadowcreme all over the eyelid, making sure not to go any higher than the socket line/crease of your eye. Then, taking the Pure Color shadow, go over the cream shadow. This will intensify the colour of your shadow and also give it staying power. Remember to blend the colour at the socket line so there are no harsh lines. The final step is to repeat the above along the bottom lash line to complete the look.
A great tip is to use one of the darker shades of the Shadowcremes, like Smokey Twighlight or Midnight Kohl, and an accompanying powder shadow for an instant foolproof smokey eye with a coloured twist – just don’t forget to blend!
Step 5 – Mascara. Estée Lauder have launched their new Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara (£22), which promises to add lift, volume and curl to your lashes. And it delivers. With a traditional style brush, although larger, it allows you to build up volume without clumps – I’m not a huge fan of the comb/plastic brush wands so this was perfect. It is on the pricier side for a mascara but it’s definitely worth it! I used the Extreme Black above, but it also comes in brown, indigo and violet.
Step 6 – Blusher. I used one of Estée Lauder’s classic products here – Signature Silky Powder Blush in Fresh Plum (£24). I love this blusher and have used it myself in the past, it seems to complement any skintone! On Georgia, I applied it just to the apples of her cheeks. The best way to do this is to grin into the mirror and swirl the brush in circular motions on the apples of your cheeks. Ta da! And we’re done.
Step 7 – Lips. The final touch is the Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Blushing Lilac (£18.50) – the Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick range is one of Estée Lauder’s new launches and is available in over 40 different colours. It’s long wearing but unlike other long wearing lipsticks, these are creamy and moisturising thanks to the gorgeous ingredients including apricot kernel, shea butter and murumuru butter. Going back to the colour itself, don’t be deceived by the name – it is most definitely a pink, not a hint of lilac anywhere. To get a softer, sheerer finish use a lip brush to apply the lipstick but if you want a stronger look, apply the lipstick directly. As it’s not too bright a colour you won’t need to worry about any colour bleeding.
The final step is optional and that’s Powder. Not everybody likes to use powder, especially if you have a dry skin type, but for those of you who do want it/need it, it has the added bonus of setting your make-up and making it last that little bit longer. My Estée Lauder recommendations would be their Lucidity Translucent Loose Powder (£26.50)/Lucidity Translucent Pressed Powder (£25) for a luminous finish and their Aeromatte Ultralucent Pressed Powder (£25) for a more matte finish.
And that’s how you create the above look using Estée Lauder!
